South Korea Online Game Subscribers Hacked
It has been reported that information of a personal nature of over thirteen million people who subscribed to an online game had their personal information hacked. The online game was part of Nexon Korea Corp, which is one of the leading game developers in Korea. It was reported on Friday that there had been a leakage of data of the online game called Maple Story.
This data breach happened several weeks before the company, which is unlisted, was going to offer its stock to the public on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. This was supposed to happen on the fourteenth of December. The company states that it is working with the computer security people and the police who are doing the investigation into the data breach.
The data that was leaked included the user’s name, passwords, user ID’s, and resident registration numbers. An official of the company stated that the data that was hacked and leaked did not cover any information on account numbers from the subscriber’s bank and financial transactions. In addition it did not cause any problems to the subscribers of the game from overseas. The company is requesting that the subscribers change their passwords to thwart any further damage even though the passwords and registration numbers that were leaked were encrypted.
